How often should artificial turf be professionally cleaned?
It depends on your trees, your pets, and how much use the turf gets. Yards with heavy shade and falling leaves can need light cleanings as often as weekly in the fall; sunny yards with no trees may go four to six weeks between visits. Every yard should get a deep cleaning at least twice a year — that's when we fluff the fibers, check the infill, and inspect for repairs. We'll recommend a schedule after a free assessment.
Why does my turf still smell after I rinse it?
Rinsing moves water through the turf, but it doesn't break down what's causing the odor. Pet urine builds up in the fibers, the infill, and sometimes the weed barrier or base underneath, and only an enzyme-based cleaner actually breaks it down. Stubborn odors can take several treatments, and swapping standard infill for pet-friendly enzyme infill helps keep the smell from coming back.
Can pet urine permanently damage artificial turf?
It usually won't damage the turf itself — but the odor can become very hard to remove if the wrong turf, base, or weed barrier was installed. Pet-friendly turf is designed to let waste drain through to a crushed stone base below. If your setup wasn't built that way, we'll start with a deep clean, enzyme treatment, and infill replacement. We're honest about this: in the worst cases those steps help a lot but may not remove the odor completely, and we'll tell you where you stand before you spend money.
Can artificial turf be pressure washed?
No — we strongly recommend against it. High pressure can damage the base under the turf, cause lumps and wrinkles, scatter the infill that keeps fibers upright, and break down the glue at the seams. Never use more pressure than a standard garden hose nozzle. In serious odor cases, a professional soft wash with gentle detergents can be used as a last resort — but only after a power-broom cleaning has removed the embedded debris.
Doesn't rain keep my turf clean?
No. Rain actually carries dust and dirt onto the turf and speeds up the breakdown of leaves and organic material, which then settles between the fibers where it can mold and grow bacteria. A quick rinse from rain is like a light shower on a dusty car — the dirt clings and dries spotty instead of washing away.
Can mold or bacteria grow in artificial turf?
Yes. Turf can hold mold spores, mildew, and fungus, and moisture plus pet waste or decaying leaves creates the right conditions for bacteria — some of which can cause skin rashes. This is exactly what deep cleaning and sanitizing prevent. If you think your turf has a problem, we can clean and sanitize it with products that are safe for pets and kids.
