What's the best artificial turf for pets?

Pet turf is its own category
The details matter with pet turf. It should be shorter — about 1 to 1.5 inches — with an uncoated backing so drainage is never an issue, built-in antimicrobial protection, and a weave designed to resist digging for dogs with ambitions.
Just as important are the infill and the base underneath: pet installations use an enzyme infill that breaks down urine odor right where it happens.
What goes under the turf matters more than what's on top
Most turf problems we're called to fix — pooling water, wrinkles, stubborn pet odor — started below the surface on installation day. The sub-base has to drain, period.
For pet turf, that means no more than a half inch of decomposed granite over three-quarters of an inch of crushed drainage rock.
Standard installs often use 3 to 4 inches of decomposed granite, and its fine dust and sand is exactly what traps urine and causes odor that never leaves.
If the base is wrong, the turf above it will pool water, wrinkle, and eventually peel back — and no amount of cleaning fixes a bad base.
You might ask why someone would install the wrong base…becasue most customers don't know to ask or know what they are getting under the turf.

Will it drain after a Texas downpour?
Yes — if drainage was part of the design. We evaluate your gutter system and the angle of the yard before we install, and where needed we recommend underground drainage that sheds water fast in heavy rain.
After a storm, properly installed turf drains down through the base instead of pooling on top.
What about the Texas heat?
Heat won't damage turf, but summer turf can get hot to the touch.
Two things help: turf with heat-reflective blades runs as much as 20% cooler, and there are infills designed to trap moisture and release it slowly through the day — cooling the surface the way natural grass does.
